Therapy for Life Transitions in Overland Park, Kansas
Life transitions can bring a mixture of excitement, uncertainty, and grief. Even when a change is something you wanted or expected, it can still involve letting go of the life, identity, relationships, or sense of security you once knew. Because change often involves loss, even positive changes can bring grief.
Change can stir up emotions and make you feel stress, anxiety, fear, frustration, sadness, uncertainty, and self-doubt as you adjust to a new chapter.
Therapy for life transitions provides a way to acknowledge what you've lost, understand what you're feeling, and explore who you are becoming. Together, we'll work toward finding meaning, rebuilding confidence, and creating a sense of purpose in this next chapter of your life.
You might benefit from therapy for life transitions if:
You’re going through a major life change and feel uncertain about who you are or what comes next.

HEATHER HARGROVE, LCPC
Hi, I’m Heather, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I help people navigate the seasons of life when something has changed and you’re left wondering who you are now and what comes next.
I’ve spent several years supporting people through the uncertainty, grief, and emotional overwhelm that can come with major life transitions. My hope is to help you move from feeling lost to feeling grounded, from uncertainty to greater confidence, and from holding onto what was to making space for what’s next.
I’m passionate about this work because I believe transitions aren’t just about change—they’re often about loss, too. Retirement, an empty nest, divorce, marriage, career changes, relocation, and other major transitions can change your relationships, routines, identity, and sense of security. Even when a change is wanted, you may still find yourself grieving the life or version of yourself you’re leaving behind.
You shouldn’t have to choose between honoring where you’ve been and embracing where you’re going. Therapy can give you a safe space to process what you’re leaving behind, reconnect with yourself, and begin to trust the person you’re becoming.
Together We Will:
Make space for what you’ve lost while helping you find your footing in what comes next.
Explore the grief, uncertainty, and emotions that come with change and help you create a meaningful path forward.
Process the ending of one chapter while making space for the person and life you’re becoming.
Understand how change has affected your sense of self, your relationships, and your sense of security.
Honor what you’re leaving behind while discovering new ways to feel grounded, connected, and hopeful.
Navigate the grief that can come with change and help you reconnect with what matters most to you.
Move from feeling uncertain and disconnected to feeling grounded, confident, and ready for what’s next.

-
Transitions often involve a period of uncertainty where the old chapter has ended but the new one doesn’t feel fully established yet. Therapy can help you navigate that in-between space and develop a stronger sense of direction and confidence.
-
It’s common to feel pressure to embrace a new chapter, especially when the change is considered positive. But there is no requirement to feel one emotion at a time. Therapy can help you make space for the complicated feelings that come with change without judging yourself for having them.

I am currently considered to be an out of network mental health provider.
I am happy to provide you a superbill each month to give to your insurance. Please check with your insurance about your out of network mental health benefits - many of my clients are able to get reimbursement from their insurance.
Why you should consider working with an “out of network” therapist:
No limitations on sessions. We can meet for as long as you need without having to worry if insurance will cut us off, or end coverage, which could abruptly end your care.
Allows me to offer you more flexible, personalized, and intentional care.
Helps me keep your information completely confidential, without needing to share diagnosis or notes with insurance companies.
Allows us to avoid surprise billing issues, which can lead to lapses in treatment.
Lets us focus on what’s best for you, not what insurance says is best for you!
